TRAPOMATIC-3000!!

Creators: Gabriel Jackson, Riley McIntyre.

Design Brief:

The Trapomatic-3000 is a device that is so simple that it cannot fail. Suitable to trap rats, mice and other pests. (Bigger size for children!NOT!!!). A small box that has bait inside and if the pest triggers the string at the entrance causing the trapdoor to trap the pest.

Items needed to build Trapomatic-3000:

  • Pulley (x2)
  • Box (x1)
  • String (x1)
  • Scissors (x1)
  • Cardboard/Paper (A4)

How to build the Trapomatic-3000:
  1. Cut some holes around the TRAPOMATIC-3000 for the windows. And a larger hole for the entrance.
  2. Place some bait inside the box.
  3. Attach some string to the box on the inside.
  4. Add 2 pulleys on the top and and bottom left.
  5. Cut a trapdoor about the size of the door with the excess cardboard.
  6. Make 2 rectangular prisms one for holding the trapdoor up and the other to hold rectangular prism up.
  7. Then attach the second rectangular prism at the top left corner.
  8. Attach the other end of the string to the 1st rectangular prism.
  9. Then your done.

How is the Trapomatic-3000 going to work?:
1. The pest will see/smell the bait and head towards it.
2. It will trigger the string, the string attached to the pulley will pull a beam making the trapdoor turn into Kinetic energy from Potential energy. Then from Kinetic to sound as it hits the ground. This fall is caused by gravity.3. Therefore it shall be trapped!!!

How is the Trapomatic-3000 a simple machine?:

First of all the Trapomatic-3000 is a simple machine because it does not require any power, and only uses forces from the pest and other things like gravity. The grooves in the Trapomatic-3000 will make sure the trapdoor comes down without toppling over.

How does the Trapomatic-3000 give an example of a transferring energy?:
When the motion of the pest gets transferred through the sting to the beam pulling it back letting the trapdoor fall.

How does the Trapomatic-3000 give an example of a transforming energy?:
The trapdoor turns from potential energy while being held up by a beam, to kinetic energy while falling.
